The Hunter Regional Band Association is a Branch of the Band Association of New South Wales. It is a non-profit Association that has both Brass Bands and Concert Band as its members. Most of the Bands are Community Bands, but several School Bands are also members of the Association. The Committee is elected from registered delegates of member bands. There are seventeen member bands in a region from Muswellbrook to Newcastle and Lake Macquarie to Woy Woy.

Function

The Association exists to benefit member bands by:

Staging Annual Competitions for Brass and Concert Bands
The competitions are:
Formal: Bands compete in their allocated Grades (A, B, C, D), presenting a Hymn and an Own Choice number for adjudication.
Entertainment: Bands compete in Two Divisions - Division 1 for A and B Grade Bands and Division 2 for C and D Grade Bands. Each band presents a short concert, designed to entertain an audience.

Staging Annual Soloist and Ensemble Competitions
These competitions are designed for individual Musicians, Duets and small Ensembles (4 to 8 musicians) to compete in age divisions and instrument categories.

Staging an Annual Marching Competition held in conjunction with the Mattara Festival Parade.

Arranging non-competitive Band Events for the community entertainment, free of charge, such as:
Bands In The Park, an annual event held in King Edward Park in which up to twelve bands present a concert program throughout the day.
